Festes Sant Bartomeu, Montuiri
Traditional Mallorcan dance and festival in honour of Sant Bartomeu
The Festes de Sant Bartomeu in Montuïri run throughout August and into September and has a pretty packed schedule!
Montuiri's Festes de Sant Bartomeu 2024 is a vibrant celebration held in honour of the town's patron saint, Saint Bartholomew. This annual event, typically from August and into September features a blend of traditional and modern activities, including lively parades, folk music, and dance performances.
Highlights of the festival include the traditional "cossiers" dance, where dancers in colourful costumes perform ancient rituals, and a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the night sky. The festivities are a wonderful showcase of Montuiri's rich cultural heritage and community spirit. The famous male dancing 'cossiers' tour around the town accompanied by the devil and a woman (actually a man in disguise). The men are dressed in brightly coloured clothes and wear unusual hats. The ceremony is reminiscent of a pagan festival where the men pay tribute to the female's fertility.
You can find times and dates of the individual events and parties in the Official Programme in the weblink above (available about a week before the event).
