Tomeu Escalas: Co-Owner of Santa Clara Urban Hotel & Spa

Tell us a little bit about your business…

The Santa Clara Urban Hotel & Spa , started back in 2007 where we found the historical building right in the old town, surrounded by churches and in front of the Santa Clara Convent and gardens, by then it was owned by a woman who bought it from a noble Mallorquin family, it was then that we acquired it and finished the building and restoration of the building in order to convert it into a boutique Hotel with a spa. At the time we had already another Hotel in Calvia, family business as well, and were looking for something in Palma. We fell in love with the building and its location!

What makes Mallorca such a special place?

Mallorca its special for many things, it has everything, its secure, close and with good connectivity with the rest of Europe, good weather almost all year round, fabulous landscape, mountains and the most amazing calas and beaches, excellent for all kinds of sports, excellent cuisine, night life and its also good for families to relax and enjoy many excursions. The Santa Clara urban Hotel & spa is on top located right in the centre of the old town, 5 min walk from all restaurants, town hall, plaza mayor, shopping, fashion boutiques and a stroll away from the Beach in Palma as well as 15 min drive to the Airport and the main Golf courses.

What are the best bits about your job?

The best things of my job is to see that our clients had a fabulous time and that really enjoyed their holidays and the Hotel.

And the worst bits?

The worst bits is the administrative work and red tape to get things done sometimes.

What is in store for the future with your business?

My personal goals are to improve the business continuously and try to expand into other businesses, looking to offer always excellence and quality.

Where will we find the best coffee, paella or empanadas in Mallorca?

The best empanadas or ensaimadas, you have to go to the bakery La Mallorquina on Avinguda Joan March in Palma, or Can Joan d'Sáigo.

What do you do when you're not working?

When I am not working, try to spend some time with the family, friends and love to do sports cycling, running, swimming and also going out for dinner/dancing.

Where is your favourite beach?

My favourite beach is Es Trenc and Es Carbo, also Cala Formentor beach and Playa de Muro are authentic paradises.

What's your tip to escape the crowds in the summer?

It can be difficult to escape from the crowds, I suggest come to the Santa Clara Urban Hotel & Spa, where you can experience tranquillity and peace and be close of the centre.
