New BBC series starring Hugh Laurie & Tom Hiddleston being filmed in Mallorca
'The Night Manager', based on a novel by John Le Carre, started shooting scenes last week in Palma
The 6-episode series will be filmed in Palma and other spots around the island in the next month. Directed by Oscar-winning Danish director Susanne Bier, the cast, lead by Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, is full of British stars including Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Debicki and Tom Hollander, as well as Spanish actors like Marta Torné and Antonio de la Torre.
The story revolves around British ex-soldier Jonathan Pino (Hiddleston), recruited by an intelligence agent (Colman) to infiltrate the arms dealing network directed by Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), together with his girlfriend (Debicki) and associate (Hollander). The novel, published in 1992, rapidly became an international bestseller.
The Balearic Islands' Goverment together with Palma's Council support the shooting through the Iles Balears Film Commission and Palma Film Office. A local production company, Palma Pictures, has also provided 75 artistic and technical workers and 50 vehicles.
The first scenes were shot last week at the Bahía Mediterráneo Restaurant and a medical clinic in the centre of Palma.
The series will air in 2016 in the United Kingdom (BBC) and United States (AMC).
