Richard Branson Resumes Plans for Luxury Resort in Mallorca
Virgin Limited Edition have purchased an estate in the west of the island
The wonderful country finca of Son Bunyola, located near Banyalbufar, was Branson's property until he sold it in 2002 because the local council blocked his proposal to turn it into a luxury boutique hotel. But the British tycoon is back!
Sir Richard Branson has purchased Son Bunyola through his Virgin Limited Edition branch, a collection of luxury hotels that includes properties in Kenya, Swizerland and the British Virgin Islands, of which they own Necker Island.
Son Bunyola is a beautiful villa located on the southern edge of the Tramuntana mountains with 160,000m2 of land including a vineyard, fruit trees and an olive grove, and 5km of coastline. The manor house, dating back to the 1800s, was extensively renovated by Branson, and he now plans to develop it into a luxurious boutique eco resort.
There is no doubt about the Virgin founder's love for Mallorca. His son Sam even named his own daughter Eva-Deia in honour of the western Mallorca town. His depart of the island in 2002 was hasty, selling not only Son Bunyola but also the beautiful La Residencia Hotel. Hopefully his return will be long-lived.
