Emergency services were alerted this morning at 7:00 of the 10-metre sailing yacht's accident, sailing under a French flag.

The yacht was carrying six people when it crashed against a cliff. They tried to tie the boat to land, where some local residents had arrived, alarmed by the noise, to help. Three of them were able to reach solid ground, but the other three died due to the impact of the vessel against the rocks.

The emergency services could not access the area of the wreckage by sea because of the bad conditions, so they had to be rescued with a helicopter. The survivors, a man and two women in their fifties, have been hospitalised in Formentera to be treated of hypothermia.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims.
