Cocktails at Bar Atlantico

A Cocktail Menu which will Thrill Your Taste Buds

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Emily Benet, Mallorca Reporter Updated

Bar Atlantico has an exciting new cocktail menu with flavours that will thrill your taste buds. Opened in the 50s by an American marine, the bar still retains its original feel with every inch of its walls covered in mementos, shields, flags, number plates and felt-tipped messages from over fifty years of happy customers.

With rock music playing low in the background, it feels more like a place to grab a beer rather than a top of the range cocktail. But don't be fooled. These cocktails are some of the best I've ever tasted.

My advice is to forget the classics and experiment with new flavours. Lovers of tequila, I recommend a Hibiscus Dream with hibiscus infusion, triple sec and watermelon. It's flavoursome, fruity and very refreshing. For some serious mouth-tingling, treat yourself to an Electric Sensation. First you'll be given an electric flower to eat, which looks like a dried daisy. Within seconds your tongue starts to fizz and tingle. If I say it feels like anesthetic, will you still try it? Combined with the bitter sweet cynar-based cocktail, it's a drink that asks to be savoured.

Love spicy cocktails? Then Labios Calientes, literally meaning 'hot lips', might turn out to be your favourite. Hot spice contrasts with fragrant, flowery notes and will leave you licking your lips. Finally, for the sweet-tooths amongst you, don't leave without trying the Smoky Storm. It was a delight to watch Emmanuel Stamatakis, the menu's designer, prepare the delicious rum-based creation, which is served in a glass flavoured with smoked cinnamon and accompanied with chocolate and dried orange. It felt like Christmas time in summer and is definitely my idea of a dessert.

Bar Atlantico is an unpretentious bar, with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Apart from cocktails, it also serves a wide range of beer, wine and bar snacks. Open from 19.00 every day of the week, it gets busy after the restaurants close at midnight with its busiest nights predictably on Friday and Saturday. Located in the historic centre of Palma, it's a short walk from many other restaurants and bars, and can be a place to enjoy for the evening or a stop off as part of a bigger night.

Whatever cocktail you choose on their enticing new menu, I doubt any of them will leave you feeling indifferent. Prices for cocktails start at €7.50 each.
