La Terraza Restaurant Review, Alcanada
A seafood lovers dream with a choice of two dining experiences and menus
La Terrazza is the absolute gem of Alcanada’s eateries, just a five minute drive away from busy Port D’Alcudia, hidden from the road by brush and trees and situated on a little point jutting into the sea, this restaurant feels like a little secluded spot of luxury.
Stunning views out over the blue waters of the bay all the way across to the distant headland of Can Picafort and Arta will give you something to feast your eyes upon as you dine at this remarkable restaurant.
There are several options for your dining experience, they serve lunch from 13:00 until 16:00 and dinner from 19:00 until 23:00 and for each service you have a choice of dining outside on the terrace from the ‘bistro’ style menu or experiencing the fine dining of the indoor restaurant – walled in glass so that no part of your view is impaired.
They have an excellent wine list as well as extensive cocktail and drinks menu available at both locations. They do stay open between meal services and are more than happy for you to while away the afternoon over a coffee or cocktail amongst the trees on their beautiful terrace.
The bistro menu offers a selection of tapas featuring cured ham, cheeses, salads and many seafood options, also sandwiches, burgers, steak, fish, pasta and rice, ranging in price from a €5 lunch stop sandwich to the fisherman’s grill at €26.80 featuring fresh fish, red prawns and mussels and served with salad and potatoes. They pride themselves on their fresh produce and given their location and live lobster tank in the restaurant you’re on for a winner with anything seafood based.
The seafood fascination continues to the indoor restaurant’s dinner menu, which boasts two different lobster starters as well as scallops, baked octopus and tuna tartar amongst other things. The mains are a carnivores dream with sadly not many options for vegetarians, but if you’re after a Mallorcan piglet, baked duck or rack of lamb you’ve come to the right place. The indoor restaurant is as expected, more expensive than outdoor with most of the mains being priced upwards of €25, but for the fresh ingredients and intricate dishes your extravagance will be justified.
The dinner menu is indeed fabulous but the big winner of the indoor restaurant is surprisingly its lunch menu. If you can drag yourself inside away from the sun drenched terrace (or maybe come intentionally when it rains) you’re in for a treat. The dinner menu is replaced by a three-course set lunch menu that features dishes not found on any of the other menu variations. For €25 you get the choice of four starters and four mains all heavily meat and fish orientated (sorry veggies), a dessert of the day and your bread, wine and coffee included. Don’t make any plans for after that indulgent lunch, you’re going to want to relax on the terrace and watch the boats go by.
The restaurant boasts great service and indeed the staff are very friendly and helpful, not imposing upon you if you wish to relax but available when need if you want to order or discuss your options. The bistro-esque outdoor dinning area is definitely the more family friendly of the two and if children need entertaining they can step down from the terrace to the waters edge and watch the fish swim or go crab hunting. There are a few sun umbrellas and loungers on the rocks as well if you’re required to watch them at play.
Head to La Terraza if you love stunning views with your meal, if you’re a seafood fanatic or if you fancy getting out of busy Port D’Alcudia for a change. Think twice if you’re a vegetarian although you certainly wouldn’t go hungry you wont have too much choice. If you’re thinking of going make sure you reserve a table for the indoor restaurant lunch or dinner and for the bistro area at dinner if you want to secure yourself the best view. Check out their website for mouthwatering pictures of their food, their modern, spacious aesthetic and their stunning location.
